Weather forecasters are predicting a measurable snow/ice event. Therefore, the Borough of West Reading has declared a snow emergency effective 4:00 PM Sunday, February 22, 2026. Please check street signs before parking, or where you are parked, to ensure your vehicle is not parked on a street signed “Snow Emergency Route – Snow Tires or Chains Required – No Parking During

Emergency – Vehicles Towed Away”. For the map of snow emergency route information, please click here. For a list of snow emergency routes, please click here.

Tower Health will have the parking garage at the Doctor’s Office Building (DOB) on South Seventh Avenue open to residents for parking during the snow emergency.

Compliance with parking rules helps snowplows clear snow effectively, enabling safe travel. Snow routes are completed first, then secondary (residential areas), and then the smaller streets/alleys.

Shovel Smart

The following are reminders and tips to help make winter safer and more hassle-free for everyone:

  • Do not shovel, plow, or blow snow into the street. Blowing into the streets makes it difficult to clear them.
  • Please clear snow and ice around fire hydrants.
  • Please clear snow and ice from public sidewalk areas on your property within the specified time limit.
  • If your schedule allows, wait until the street is plowed before shoveling to the end of the driveway. Shovel the snow to the “downstream” side of your driveway. This prevents snow from being plowed back into your driveway.

Play It Safe

Talk to your children about snowplow safety. Children should stay away from snow piled at the curb and be warned not to build forts in it. Children should also be reminded to stay at least 20 feet back in the driveway when the plow comes down the street. Use extreme caution when passing plowing or de-icing equipment.
