Animal Control Services

The Animal Rescue League (ARL) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Borough of West Reading to assist with the acceptance and housing of stray dogs only from within the borders of the borough that show signs of ownership. Dogs that show signs of ownership include microchips, collars, tags, tattoos, clothing articles, and surgical scarring. The acceptance of stray dogs to the ARL facility is limited to ARL Animal Protection Officers or a borough-designated representative. Stray dogs may not be brought by a member of the public or any third-party entity without prior approval of both the ARL and the borough.

The ARL shall determine the disposition for each stray dog at the sole discretion of the ARL, including, but not limited to: adoption, transferring to another rescue organization, or humane euthanasia. All dispositions shall be determined in accordance with current Pennsylvania Laws and internal operational procedures. The ARL reserves the right to refuse certain services due to space, inventory, or other factors that may limit its operational capacity.

Please contact the non-emergency police line at 610-373-0111 to report a stray dog.
