The Borough of West Reading, its Council, Mayor, and Departments wish to welcome you to the official web site for the Borough of West Reading!

First Main Street Community in Berks County

West Reading Borough has been an incorporated political subdivision of the Commonwealth since March 18, 1907. We are proud to be the very first Main Street Community in Berks County and boast a rich and proud tradition.

West Reading

Borough Hall, located at 500 Chestnut Street, operates weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., housing key offices such as the Borough Manager, Police, Code Enforcement, Treasurer, and Recreation Coordinator. Public Works operates from the Maintenance Facility at 1st and Chestnut Streets, while the West Reading Fire Company is near the Borough’s pool and playground on Playground Drive.

The original Borough Hall, built in 1927 as a replica of the Delaware State House, was expanded in 2000. West Reading is governed by a council-manager system, with seven elected Council Members, a Mayor overseeing the Police Department, and a Borough Manager appointed to handle daily operations.

West Reading sits at the heart of exciting redevelopment projects in Berks County. Over the coming years, major changes will transform the area, especially around the historic Vanity Fair Outlet complex on the borough’s western edge near Wyomissing. This former knitting mill site is being revitalized to include new corporate headquarters alongside expanded retail and dining options.

Additionally, new residential developments and community spaces are planned to enhance the borough’s vibrant atmosphere. West Reading also proudly hosts Tower Health, Berks County’s largest employer, and was once home to Palmer Candies, the world’s largest novelty candy maker.
