Borough Council

West Reading Borough Council meets monthly to review community matters; members and the Mayor serve four-year terms setting policies and overseeing services.

West Reading Borough Council Overview

West Reading Borough Council meets monthly on the third Tuesday at 7 PM in Borough Hall, with occasional fourth Tuesday meetings as needed. The Council reviews minutes and recommendations from various boards, committees, and commissions, and addresses issues brought forward by the Borough Manager, Mayor, or Council members. Meetings are open to the public. Each Council member serves a four-year term and sets policies on budgeting, public works, zoning, and ordinances. The Mayor, also serving a four-year term, oversees the police department, performs ceremonial duties, and votes only to break ties in Council decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a presentation to Council?

All individuals and groups requesting an opportunity to make a presentation to Council must contact the Borough office at 610-374-8273 at least two weeks prior in order to be added to the Council meeting agenda.

Council meeting agendas are available on the Monday prior to the meeting.

Why is the public able to comment at any public meeting?

The PA Sunshine Act gives the public the right to comment on issues “that are or may be before the board”. This means that boroughs, authorities, and similar agencies must have a reasonable opportunity for residents and/or taxpayers to comment on an issue before a decision takes place.
