Fire Safety

During heating season, it is important to keep safety in mind:

• Keep all curtains and other combustible materials as well as children away from space heaters.   
• Proper care of natural Christmas trees is important. Remember to keep the water reservoir full at all times and use lights that are "UL approved" for indoor use and inspected for deterioration prior to placing on the tree.

Please be advised that open burning is illegal in the Borough of West Reading unless you apply for and receive a permit from the Code Department. This means no open burning of leaves, yard waste or any type of outdoor temporary fireplace without prior authorization from the Fire Chief.
