Armed Forces Day Parade Parking Restrictions
The following streets will be posted for no parking on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm
- 600 and 700 blocks of Penn Avenue
- S 6th Avenue (between Penn Avenue and Franklin)
- Franklin Street (between 4th Avenue and 6th Avenue)
- S 5th Avenue (between Franklin Street and Spruce Street)
- Spruce Street (between 4th Avenue and 7th Avenue)
- 8th Avenue and Penn Avenue to S 6th Avenue
- Right on S 6th Avenue to Franklin Street
- Left on Franklin Street to S 4th Avenue
- Right on S 4th Avenue to Spruce Street
- Right on Spruce Street to Spruce Street parking garage
Reading Hospital has agreed to provide parking for Borough residents affected by the parade restrictions during the duration of the parade. Residents will be permitted to park in the 7th Avenue and Spruce Street parking garage. In addition, the owner of the West Reading Shopping Center has agreed to allow residents to park in the shopping center parking lot as well.

COMMISSION/BOARD VACANCIESRecreation Commission
The Recreation Commission has two vacancies if anyone would like to be on the committee. Please submit a letter of interest to the Recreation Department. The committee meets once a month to discuss topics related to Recreational events in our community. This is a volunteer position and some heavy lifting is required. You must live in the Borough of West Reading to be on the committee.

Special Notice concerning trash/recycling:
The Codes Department will be placing an emphasis on the enforcement of trash/refuse bags that are not in durable, water-tight containers with lids. Notice of Violation letters will be sent to any property found to be in violation. If the violation is not corrected a citation will be filed with the District Justice Magistrate. Due to the public health and safety of the residents, we as for your cooperation with the following.
1.) All refuse MUST be stored in durable, water-tight containers equipped with handles and tight-fitting covers which cannot be larger than thirty-five (35) gallons. It is suggested that you mark your containers with your address.
2.) Four (4) trash cans per residence per pickup are allowed. Please DO NOT place bulky items out for regular pickup. These items may only be placed out for pickup on the first Friday of every month.
3.) Please DO NOT place trash/recycling out prior to Noon the day before pickup and promptly remove your receptacle by midnight on the day of pickup.
4,) Trash pickup remains every Tuesday and Friday.
Recycling pickup remains every Wednesday.
5.) Yard waste MUST be placed in biodegradable bags for pickup or arrangements need to be made with the Borough Garage for disposal. Please call 610-374-8605 to schedule and appointment between the hours of
7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The garage is located at 1st Avenue and Chestnut Streets.
6.) Electronic items such as microwaves, dehumidifiers and air conditioners will not be picked up by the trash hauler. These items must be recycled due to hazardous materials. Please contact Berks County Solid Waste Authority at 610-478-6362 or visit their website at www.co.berks.pa.us/swa for more information.

Water Quality Report Information
Every year at this time we provide all of our water users with a water quality report for the previous year. The report contains important information about the source and quality of our drinking water. This year, instead of mailing a paper copy to each residence in the Borough, we are providing the information on our website which you may access by clicking here. However if you still wish to have a copy mailed to you, please call the water department at 610-374-8273, option 1 and we will be happy to send one out.
