Department of Code Compliance

The Department of Code Compliance investigates most neighborhood quality of life complaints within the Borough including parking on grass, debris in the yard, uncut grass and building without permits. It enforces zoning, property maintenance, building, blight, grass, fire and health codes all within a single department.

Please note that Council has enacted an updated Refuse Ordinance which now requires that trash be stored and placed out for collection in durable, watertight containers equipped with handles and tight-fitting covers which cannot be larger than thirty-five (35) gallons.  Refuse and recycling cannot be placed out for collection prior to noon the day before collection.  All containers must be removed by 11:59 p.m., the same day as collection and stored on your individual property.  Containers are not to remain in the alley nor on the streets where you place them for collection.  At no time are trash cans and recycling bins to be stored in the front of your property or on the front porch or yard area.

Bulk Collection

On the first Friday of every month, you may place one bulk item at the curb for collection with your trash. Items such as tires, appliances, water heaters, batteries, items with freon, etc. will not be accepted. Bulk items may weigh no more than 75 pounds and be no more than 5 feet in length.

If you have any questions or wish to view the Ordinance please call or stop in Borough Hall in the Administration or Code Enforcement Department and we will gladly assist you.

Our Code Enforcement Office is staffed with a Code Enforcement Officer who is also a Building Code Official and Zoning Officer; two Assistant Code Enforcement Officers and a Code Enforcement Secretary. This department handles a variety of permits, signs, licenses, property maintenance inspections, property complaints and tracking of rental and tenant listings. Necessary forms may be obtained at Borough Hall.

We encourage all residents and or businesses to log complaints to the Code Enforcement Department at any time. Please submit our complaint form in person or via fax, email, mail or drop box located in the parking lot of Borough Hall to the attention of the Code Department.
