Here are some energy-saving tips to keep in mind:

  • Unplug seldom-used appliances
  • Set computers to sleep and hibernate
  • Set the refrigerator temperature to between 38-42 degrees Fahrenheit; the freezer should be set between 0 and 5 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Turn off lights when not in use
  • Check to make sure that air is not leaking around windows and doors. Caulk and weather-strip where necessary
  • Swap out standard light bulbs for more energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs
  • Bundle up or insulate your water heater if it is located in an unheated part of your home
