Mission Statement of the West Reading Police Department

Since it was first established in 1923, it has been the mission of the West Reading Police Department to provide our community with a safe and secure place to visit and call home.

All of us here at the West Reading Police Department are dedicated to maintaining strong community relationships throughout the highest ethical standards, respect, professional conduct and the preservation of peace in a fair and dignified manner.



The West Reading Police Department consists of 14 full-time officers, 1 part-time officer, support staff, a full time Parking Enforcement Officer. Our police dog Fox has retired, Falco will be joining the team in the near future. We are located in the West Reading Borough Hall at 500 Chestnut Street, West Reading, Pennsylvania. The department is run by Chief Stephen Powell. Some functions of the department include: Criminal Investigations, Parking Enforcement, K-9 Unit, Crime Prevention Officers, Motorcycle and Bicycle Patrols, D.A.R.E. Program, Youth Aid Program, Aggressive Driving Enforcement, and the Childsafe Program designed with gun safety in mind.

Office Hours - For your convenience the Police Department's front desk is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. If the Police Department is closed, No Parking Signs may be purchased and parking ticket payments may be made at the Administration office Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.


Parking - Our Parking Enforcement Officer patrols our streets and issues parking tickets for violations.


Street Postings - Please check your street for sign postings, including those that are posted for the street cleaning program. Borough Crew Members may also post streets for other maintenance work as well as snow removal. Signs are posted on posts, trees and stakes the day before scheduled maintenance work. Vehicles must be removed during the specified times, or tickets will be issued. Signs will be removed when the work has been completed.


Curfew - Children under 18 years of age are not permitted on Borough streets after 9:30 p.m., and before 6:00 a.m., unless accompanied by a responsible adult.


Going On Vacation? - We ask that all residents contact the Police Department at 610-373-0111 to file a vacation report. This information will be of assistance whether you will be gone for an overnight trip or an extended leave. Information such as vehicles parked on the street and emergency contacts are requested.


Crime Prevention Tips - Please remember to:
~ Remove or hide valuables in vehicles and ALWAYS lock your vehicle doors.
~ Be alert for and report any suspicious activity.
~ Drive safely and watch for pedestrians.
